The sound from your microphone is analysed in your browser. It is never uploaded to any server.

How to test your microphone

Allow the microphonePress Start test. Your browser will ask for permission to use the microphone: allow it.
Watch the levelSpeak or clap. The bar and the waveform move with the sound. A good level is between -30 and -6 dB. If the bar reaches the end, the sound is too loud and may distort.
Choose the microphoneIf you have more than one microphone, pick the one to test from the list. You can also let the browser reduce noise and echo, as video calls do.
Record a testRecord 5, 10 or 20 seconds, listen to it and, if you want, download it as MP3 or WAV.

If the bar does not move, check that the microphone is not muted, that it is the one selected in your system and that your browser has permission to use it in the site settings. The levels are in dBFS, which is measured from the maximum level a digital recording can hold: they show how strong the signal is, not how loud the room is. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere unless you press Record, and even then the recording stays on your device.
